Switch Mofongo

Switch Mofongo was born from my best friend, Connor, and myself deciding where the hell we were going for a month while our seasonal jobs shut down. About a week before closing time, "Puerto Rico?" was proposed. "Sick, sounds good, let's make it happen".

Plane tickets booked.. should we get some friends to come? Yup, Jake's in, we'll see you there.

We land in San Juan, where we will call home for the next five days. Packing light was easy for the boys, the biggest haul was my camera bag. Santurce, the arts district in the city of San Juan, is our homestead. A less frequented area of Puerto Rice, we were grateful to not be among the crowds of tourists usually found in the million dollar resorts on the coast.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Isabel, who immediately makes us feel at home in our non-airconditioned loft. Not that we were stressed. Pulling the two queen beds together and passing out after a day of multiple Medallas and hours in the PR sun was the page we were on.

Drop the bags and let's go skate. Straight from the house we bomb north towards the coastline. First spot is all time, brick ground, but smooth with J shaped benches. We didn't know we struck gold so quickly. On about four hours of sleep, Jake and Connor are quick to start the sesh. We log one of our best clips and we're off to the next spot.

Rolling tobacco and a sixer of Medalla is the first stop. Off to the next spot, might as well be the boys playground. Jake's ripping and Connor does a perfect front tail kickflip, remember that? Either way, end of day one, fuck your sick of reading this...

We can keep the rest of the trip short, but going to touch on a few thing that you need to know if your going on a skate/any trip to Puerto Rico.

TRAVEL GUIDE SHIT: Go visit Old San Juan often, skate/walk around the plazas, it's beautiful. Keep in mind food and drink will put a dent in your wallet. We suggest you go to a super market and buy a pint of DON Q for $1 and a sixer of Medalla for $5. Super markets are key, but also indulge in a meal or two; it's worth it.

Takeaway: go to Rincon and surf for a couple days, stay in San Juan, not the resort shit, skate. Sleep in the same bed as your friends with no air conditioning, and lastly don't go to la Perla bowl after dusk.

Variables

Volume 1, where to start. Let's keep it concise...

The camera of choice is a Sony Vx1000, manufactured in 1995, mini dv tapes, and MK1 fisheye lens. This is one camera that will never be outdated in the skateboard industry.

With no plans, Connor and myself set out to film a "skate video." Lucky for us we're motivated and healthy. Colorado is home base so we make Denver and Boulder a frequent visit, with the high rockies in there for some of the shots.

Connor is a Virginia boy and takes a trip back home. Lucky for us his visit wasn't purely to see family.

I'm from the Austin area so of course we had to make a trip to see some old friends and skate a few spots. Unfortunately, or fortunately, not sure, the Austin live music scene was calling our names. It was skate 100 degree heat by day, and crush $2 16oz Lonestars by night and listen to good tunes for the boys. Luckily neither had succumb to heat exhaustion. Big time shouts to Garrett for letting us call your apartment home, big time love!

We'll call it 3 months of filming, with a few clips scattered here and there a month or two after, and we pretty much had a full video. (OG name Breckenridge Killed my Libido)

FOR THOUGHT: If you have the ambition and desire to make a video go fucking do it! It's not easy but it sure as hell is fun. Go sweat and sleep in an awkward place with your best friends because you sure as hell will not regret it.

Albert Frankenstein

Spend a couple days with your best friends in a pre-season snowboard park and this is what you get. That and a couple Micheladas.

Filmed in late November/Early December in Breckenridge, Co with Sy Moran, Asher Humphreys, Mike Green, Carlos Garcia Knight, and JJ Rayward.

MS Preseason Woodward Copper

This flick was born from absolute stoke of early season snow. Woodward at Copper Mountain always has the best early season park and this showcased that.

Sunny day and hot laps with Sy Moran.

Vegan Pizza

Summertime snowboarding.... can't beat it. Grab your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen because it's going to be toasty.

This was filmed summer '19 on a Sony VX1000, a camera, in my opinion, that will never be out dated.

Sy Moran and myself spent 2 days filming, well mostly just shredding, to come up with what your'e seeing to the left of me.
